01 — The piece
In detail.
Most shelving is spaced for nobody's books. The Mara is drawn after we have asked what it will hold — paperbacks, large-format books, records, objects — and the shelf heights follow from the answer.
Its shelves are thick enough not to bow under a full load, and it is left open at the back so the wall and the light come through. It can stand on its own, or be built into an alcove and scribed to the walls so there is no gap to collect dust.
