01 — The piece
In detail.
The Kilima is built from two things only. The frame is solid teak, square in section and jointed rather than screwed, so it tightens with use instead of loosening. The seat and back are one continuous sling of vegetable-tanned leather, stretched across it and left to settle.
Leather like this is never finished on the day it arrives: it darkens in the sun and softens where you sit, and after a year the chair is yours in a way no upholstered seat can be. Ask for samples — hide is best chosen in daylight, beside the rest of the room.
